What you should know about Invisalign
Looking for a way to straighten your teeth without metal brackets and wires of traditional braces? Invisalign’s clear aligner system is an orthodontic treatment option for older kids, teens, and adults. One of the key benefits of Invisalign is that they are less noticeable than metal braces. The system uses custom made clear aligners designed to shift your teeth into the desired position. These liners can be removed for eating or cleaning.
How does it work?
Your dental professional needs to evaluate your teeth to decide if Invisalign is the right treatment for you. The initial examination includes a 3D digital scan of the patient’s teeth. This is done to create a custom treatment plan. Aligners are then produced using 3D printing technology. Invisalign uses these clear liners with the goal of moving your teeth a quarter of a millimeter at a time. The average time frame for treatment is 9-18 months.
Is Invisalign right for me?
If you have healthy teeth and no history of gum disease you may be a great candidate for Invisalign. It does require significant patient cooperation to achieve positive results. Patients are required to wear their aligners for 20-22 hours a day. One of the top benefits vs braces is there are no dietary restrictions. Because you can remove the aligners, you can eat whatever you want provided you brush your teeth before putting the aligners back in.
